Parents progress through various stages and complete tasks personalized to their needs. Support occurs in the family home where parents work alongside our staff. Family Support Program (FSP) – Nanaimo & Duncan
The family support program is a 4-6 week goal-oriented program aimed at supporting parents in overcoming a current “road block” which is causing the family stress. The program is voluntary, and so we do with, not for, as we aim to support parents by learning alongside them and providing them with tools to support their family. 10 hours of support per week is offered, and the majority of this time will occur within the family home. At least one sober caregiver is required for this program. Areas of focus include routines, limits, consequences, family structure, safety, nurturing a positive relationship, and community-connectedness.
Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) – Nanaimo & Duncan
IFSS provides a three month intensive involvement with a family that is significantly at risk of having a member (or members) removed, or a family that is having members newly returned to their care. In this program, we work with families in their homes to assist in teaching family members how to safely and successfully meet the needs of its members.
Initial goals are specified by the Social Worker, and we incorporate them into the goals the family has. This is accomplished by hands-on training, discussion, and the creation of a positive support network. The program provides 20 hours per week of direct contact with the family during the first month, 10 hours per week during the second month, and 5 hours per week during the third month in the program. The days and times vary based on the family’s life and schedule, and we provide 24 hour on call services. It is a voluntary program and areas of program focus are routines, limits, consequences, family structure, safety, nurturing a positive relationship, and community-connectedness.
